Rodney L. Belgrave, DVM, MS, Diplomate ACVIM

Dr. Rodney Belgrave has been the Staff Internist and director of the Internal Medicine Department at the Mid-Atlantic Equine Medical Center since 2003. After graduating from the Atlantic Veterinary College of Prince Edward Island in 1997, Dr. Belgrave completed an Equine Internship at the Mid-Atlantic Equine Medical Center. Following his internship, he completed a three-year Equine Internal Medicine residency and Master's degree in Veterinary Medicine at Washington State University. His research involved evaluating the use of a polymerized ultrapurified hemoglobin product in anemic horses requiring blood transfusions.
Following his residency, Dr. Belgrave was a clinical lecturer at the University of Florida's Veterinary Teaching Hospital. The American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine awarded Dr. Belgrave Diplomate status in 2001. He has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals and has presented at the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine's annual conference and many other continuing education seminars. In 2009 and 2011 he presented his findings on cases of “Equine Multinodular Pulmonary Fibrosis" and on the “Use of Serum Amyloid A in Clinical Cases" at the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) and American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) annual conferences. In October 2014, he presented at the Bluegrass meeting in Lexington on “Equine Multinodular Pulmonary Fibrosis" and “Treatment and Management of Bacterial Pleuropneumonia."
Dr. Belgrave has served on the educational program committee of the AAEP and is past president of the North East Association of Equine Practitioners (NEAEP). His specialty interests include respiratory and neurological disorders, neonatology, and gastroenterology. He is involved in a clinical research project with Boehringer Ingelheim surveying the incidence of infectious diseases of the upper respiratory tract in young racehorses.

Janik C. Gasiorowski, VMD, Diplomate ACVS
Board Certified Surgeon
Dr. Gasiorowski graduated cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 2007. Following graduation he completed an internship at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital, followed by a 3 year surgical residency at the University of Pennsylvania's New Bolton Center.
Dr. Gasiorowski was hired into the New Bolton Center section of surgery where he was on staff until coming to Mid-Atlantic Equine Medical Center in 2013. During his tenure there he received teaching awards and the prestigious Charles W. Raker surgery award. He was awarded diplomat status by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS) in 2012.
Dr. Gasiorowski's clinical interests include orthopedic and upper respiratory surgery, lameness diagnosis and nuclear scintigraphy. He is an active faculty member of AO North America and teaches equine orthopedic surgery for the AOVet division. More recently, he has been focusing on the development of surgical techniques in the standing (not anesthetized) horse. His research interests include regenerative medicine (stem cell therapy) and orthopedics and he has presented on topics including current applications of locking compression plates, computed tomography (CT scan) assisted fracture fixation and orthopedic implant removal. He is published in peer-reviewed journals and has written text book chapters on a variety of topics. On a more personal note, he has a growing interest in the transitioning of thoroughbred racehorses to second careers.
Dr. Janik Gasiorowski paired academics with athletics throughout his undergraduate education. He began as a biology major and member of the crew team at Duke University. In 2000 he transferred to the University of California, Berkeley to pursue Division I rowing and was a recipient of the PAC-10 Division I Athletes All-Academic scholarship. These days he still enjoys rowing, skiing, and the outdoors and spends all of his free time with his wife Brooke, sons Calvin and Gabriel, and daughter Blake.

Singen Elliott, DVM, Diplomate ACVS-LA
Residency Trained Surgeon
Dr. Singen Elliott graduated from Cornell University in 2010 with a BS in Animal Science. Dr. Elliott went on to the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary medicine for a year as a research intern, where he developed protocols and assays for coincubation of primary cell lines of bovine keratinocytes and treponema bacteria for studying bovine digital dermatitis. He returned to Cornell University for veterinary school where he was awarded the ACVS Student Surgeon award. Throughout his undergraduate and veterinary degree, Dr. Elliott worked at Cornell’s Equine Performance Testing Center assisting in upper airway research and clinical evaluation of patient airways. After graduating from vet school, Dr. Elliott went on to an internship at Littleton Equine Medical Center in 2015, followed by a second internship at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in 2016. In 2017 he moved on to the University of Georgia Veterinary Teaching Hospital for a 1 year specialty internship in surgery and emergency and critical care. He was kept on at UGA for the next 3 years where he completed his surgical residency in 2021. Dr. Elliott has a particular interest in fracture repair, upper airway surgery, and GI surgery along with sports medicine and general emergency and critical care. In his spare time, Dr. Elliott remains an active athlete, from competing for his university and the US National Team in Rowing while in school to his current competition in Olympic and Half Ironman distance triathlon. He loves spending time with his wife, a board-certified small animal surgeon and equestrian athlete, and their newborn daughter.

Catherine C. Thurston, VMD, Diplomate ACVS-LA
Board Eligible Surgeon Dr. Thurston graduated summa cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 2019. She received graduation awards for excellence in surgery, medicine, and theriogenology. Following graduation, she completed an internship at the Mid-Atlantic Equine Medical Center and then completed a three year surgical residency at the University of Pennsylvania’s New Bolton Center, finishing in 2023. During residency, her research focused on orthopedic infection in the horse following fracture repair and CT imaging of coffin bone fractures in Standardbred racehorses. She has presented her research at the American College of Veterinary Surgeons national conference. Dr. Thurston is passionate about serving as a mentor for MAEMC’s interns and providing quality care to her patients. She has spent a lifetime working with horses in many capacities and has competed in hunter shows with her now retired horse, Scottie. She competed on her college equestrian team at the University of Scranton and served as their captain for two years. Outside of work, the most important thing to her is seeing friends and family. She also enjoys spending time with her cat, Oscar, and exploring the outdoors with her Golden Retriever, Lexie.

Kyle F. Clark, VMD
Field Service Practitioner
Dr. Kyle Clark was born and raised in Chester County, PA. He obtained his Bachelor of Science, Degree with Distinction, from the University of Delaware in 2010 where he studied Animal Science (Pre-Veterinary Medicine) and Wildlife Biology. He then attended the University of Pennsylvania where he was awarded the New Bolton Center Patient Care Award and received his degree in veterinary medicine in 2014. Dr. Clark went on to complete a year-long rotating internship at the University of Tennessee’s large animal hospital.
Dr. Clark has most recently been an associate at Chicago Equine Medical Center (formerly Merritt & Associates Equine Hospital), a primary care and referral hospital which specializes in equine sports medicine and surgery. Over the past 3 years he has honed his lameness and diagnostic imaging skills working at the top sport horse arenas in Northern Illinois. Dr. Clark excels in all facets of ambulatory medicine, however his areas of professional interest include comprehensive poor performance and lameness evaluation. He is currently expanding on his interest in diagnostic imaging, through certification with the International Society of Equine Locomotor Pathology (ISELP). We are pleased to add a clinician with his experience and skillset to our growing staff.

Caroline Reckelhoff, DVM
Field Service Practitioner
Dr. Caroline Reckelhoff grew up in Kendall Park New Jersey where she starting riding and ultimately found her love for horses. She attended the University of New Hampshire where she received her degree in biomedical sciences with a focus in medical and veterinary science. She went on to the University of Florida where she obtained her doctorate of veterinary medicine. While at UF she completed research in small animal oncology and participated in studies looking at anti-inflammatories in equine placentitis. After graduation she went on to complete a year-long rotating internship at the Equine Medical Center of Ocala. Her professional interests include emergency, medicine, ophthalmology, and general practice. Outside of work, Dr. Reckelhoff enjoys staying active, spending time outdoors kayaking and horseback riding, and hanging out with her dog Randall and cat Notch.

Rebecca Lefebvre, DVM, CVMMP
Field Service Practitioner
Dr. Lefebvre is a 2012 graduate of Ross University in St. Kitts. She completed a hospital internship at Peterson and Smith in Ocala, followed by a sports medicine internship at the university of Minnesota. Dr. Lefebvre has been practicing in Pennsylvania since 2014. Her main interests are lameness and sport horse medicine, utilizing acupuncture and spinal manipulation as a "whole horse" approach. Dr. Lefebvre grew up showing hunter/jumpers, and became interested in veterinary medicine while working on barn crew at the university of Minnesota equine hospital freshman year of college. Outside of work, she enjoys riding her horse, Mimi, and going on adventures with her family.

Mary M Durando, DVM, PhD, Diplomate ACVIM

Dr. Mary Durando graduated from the University of Georgia in 1987. After working in private practice in Virginia and completing a 6-month medicine-oriented internship at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, KY, she completed a residency in Large Animal Internal Medicine at the University of Florida. Following this she went to graduate school at the Medical University of South Carolina, receiving a PhD in Physiology, in the field of endotoxin research. After the PhD program, she completed a 2-year fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania’s Large Animal Hospital in the Large Animal Cardiology/Ultrasound section. She then relocated to California for 3 years as a clinical lecturer in Equine Medicine at the University of California’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital, before returning to Pennsylvania to work at the treadmill facility in exercise physiology and cardiopulmonary research at the University of Pennsylvania’s Large Animal Hospital. Most recently, she is a partner in Equine Sports Medicine Consultants, an ambulatory internal medicine consulting practice.
Dr. Durando was awarded Diplomate status in Large Animal Internal Medicine by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine. She has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals, and has presented at the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine annual conferences, as well as the International Congress of Equine Exercise Physiology (ICEEP) meetings, and other regional and national/international continuing education seminars.
Dr. Durando’s special interests include cardiology and respiratory disorders, as well as exercise physiology and how the disorders of the cardiopulmonary system relate to poor performance. She is also interested in neonatology and sepsis/endotoxemia.
