Externships

Who can participate in an externship?
Externships are open to students currently attending veterinary schools anywhere in the world.

How do I apply for an externship?
It is easiest to apply for an externship over the phone as opposed to email. The externship schedule fills up quickly and the process of locking in dates is much easier this way. We do not have any restrictions on the length of your stay (it can be as short as a few days or as long as a few months, schedules permitting) and do not require resumes or curriculum vitas, however you are welcome to send them. We keep a file on each extern that has come to our hospital and the more information you provide the better. You can speak to Becky at the main clinic at (609) 397-0078.

Do you provide housing? Do I need to have my own transportation?
We can house a maximum of 4 externs at the hospital at a time, and some of our doctors are willing to house externs in extenuating circumstances. You do not need to have your own transportation, but if you do not have a car while you are here please do not be shy in asking for help in getting food or any other items that you need. If you are flying (either to Newark, NJ or Philadelphia, PA) please send us your itinerary and we will take care of getting you to and from the airport.

Is there any paperwork that I need to submit?
Once you have scheduled your externship, we will send you an orientation manual as well as a contact sheet that you need to fill out and return to us prior to the start of your externship. We also ask that you send a digital picture of yourself that we can add to your file prior to your arrival.
